Sealaska Directors Select David Goade to Fill Board Seat
Friday, November 2, 2018

“I look forward to bringing my extensive and diverse work experience to be an effective and productive director. I have many years of working in several ANSCA corporations in presenting business development, budgets or strategic plans.”
David Goade

Sealaska’s board of directors is proud to announce the selection of David Goade as a new member joining the board.

In July 2018, Sealaska announced a vacancy on its board of directors after the passing of director Ross Soboleff. Sealaska bylaws require a 13-member board and direct the board to fill a vacancy that occurs between annual meetings.

Sealaska received 52 letters of interest from qualified and dedicated shareholders interested in the position. The process to fill the vacancy is the responsibility of the Sealaska Governance and Nominations Committee, with final selection by the full board.

“Sealaska directors are grateful for each person who took the time to apply,” said Sealaska Chair Joe Nelson. “We are fortunate to have an engaged and dedicated community of shareholders interested in contributing to the future of Sealaska.”

The committee process that Soboleff helped create uses an anonymous and confidential electronic point system to score the skills and experience of each applicant against criteria established by the board. The scoring included assessments and finalist interviews. The rigorous process resulted in selecting Goade, a strong candidate, to join the board.

“I’d like to thank the board for their vote of confidence in selecting me to fill the vacancy left after the passing of Director Soboleff,” said David Goade. “I knew Ross professionally and it’s an honor to carry his passion of working for our people. I look forward to bringing my extensive and diverse work experience to be an effective and productive director. I have many years of working in several ANSCA corporations in presenting business development, budgets or strategic plans. I look forward to giving back to our shareholders through this opportunity.”

“We received applications from many highly qualified applicants, many with advanced degrees and extensive business and leadership experience,” said Nominations Committee Chair Jodi Mitchell. “We were fortunate to be able to select from so many outstanding applicants, many of which were former interns and scholarship recipients.”

Sealaska has used this selection process in years past for recruiting and filling vacancies on the board. Working with a third-party consultant allows for an honest process that honors all the applicants who took valuable time to apply while also adding skills and experience to the board.

Goade is the Executive Director of the Baranof Island Housing Authority in Sitka, Alaska. He attended the Executive Program for Growing Companies at Stanford University Graduate School of Business and obtained a Bachelor of Arts, Geography, Land and Transportation Planning from the University of Washington. He has served on the Alaska Association of Housing Authorities board since 2015. He is Tlingit, Eagle, Kaagwaantaan (Killer Whale), and his family is originally from Sitka, AK.

Goade will serve the remainder of Soboleff’s board term that ends in the year 2020.
