Karen Gunaa shaa Taug

Endorsed Board Nominee Karen Gunaa shaa Taug

I represent an independent voice in the boardroom and try to represent all shareholders in all my actions. As I promised, I have focused on improving communication. During the pandemic, we began holding community meetings on Zoom. This year will have more in-person meetings where we can engage directly with shareholders. Another commitment is to have financials more accessible to shareholders, and the annual financials with instructions on how to read are online in “MySealaska.com.”

We are proud of how management focuses on businesses that build on our investments into Ocean Health, which include high-quality seafood operations and hydro sciences for clean water and sustainable energy. Management has been successful in providing a profit while, as a nation, we see the decline in consumer spending and costs compounded by high inflation.

During my tenure, shareholder benefits increased:

  • Creation of Sealaska Settlement Trust – dividends exempt from income tax.
  • Language funded initially for $500,000 annually and increased by $250,000 in 2022 for a total of $750,000.
  • Scholarship awards – $1M to $1.2M in 2022-2023 school year.

I have been honored to represent you the last 2 ½ years, and I am humbly asking for your vote and support.

Gunalchéesh, Hàw’aa.
