Internship Applications Now Open for 2023 Program
Monday, October 31, 2022

Applications are now open for summer 2023 internships at Sealaska and partner organizations like Sealaska Heritage Institute, Spruce Root, Barnacle Foods, McKinley Capital and Central Council of the Tlingit and Haida Indian Tribes of Alaska.

Sealaska internships are in a class of their own — they are whole-person experiences designed to provide cultural, social and professional development; are full-time, paid positions; include cohort and team-building activities with fellow interns; and are available in a wide range of functions, from construction to anthropology, along with all core business functions like operations, human resources, accounting, communications and more.

“Our interns always say that their favorite part of the summer is connecting to their Indigenous heritage in a new way,” said Kayla Roberts, Shareholder Development Program Manager. “For some, they connect most to our Tlingit, Haida, and Tsimshian Elders’ stories; for others, they discover a new art form through a guided class. The goal is that they all feel supported and valued as a whole person – something that is then reflected in their amazing work serving Sealaska’s teams.”

We support Native students and recent graduates to help them find and foster fulfilling careers. Sealaska interns work with our teams to provide new perspectives, innovation and research across the company and One Sealaska network. Internship opportunities span the fields of:

  • Land Stewardship and Environmental Science
  • Engineering and Technology
  • Cultural Preservation
  • Business

Sealaska now offers additional internship positions through cooperative partnerships with organizations outside the One Sealaska network. Through these collaborations, we can provide engaging new opportunities for students. These diverse roles enable students to explore beyond Sealaska businesses while still retaining the support of Sealaska’s robust internship program and peer-to-peer cohort relationship.

“Our interns are dedicated to bettering the world around them and have incredible goals for their careers and education,” Roberts continued. “The intern program is one way they can connect to new mentors and classmates, who end up becoming cheerleaders and advocates in their next steps.”
