SEALASKA RESPONDS TO IMMEDIATE COMMUNITY NEEDS
Friday, March 27, 2020
Sealaska cares deeply about our shareholders, our employees, and our people. We know that the coming weeks and months will be hard for many communities in Southeast Alaska as they feel the health and economic impacts of COVID-19. We will do all we can to support our communities during this difficult time.
We’re starting by addressing the needs of our most vulnerable shareholders and neighbors as quickly as possible, Sealaska is partnering with the Food Bank of Alaska and the Southeast Food Bank to help with the food security in the region. We want to make sure that people who are impacted by this crisis aren’t struggling with uncertainty about where their next meal is coming from. This is an emergency donation to provide immediate relief to families and it’s just a first step.
By working with both food banks, we can ensure that our donation gets food to their partner organizations in communities throughout Southeast Alaska and beyond. We want to make sure that all our people have the food they need. We are particularly concerned about our Elders, who are the most vulnerable to health risks and isolation at this difficult time.
We’re also partnering with the Juneau School District to ensure the students who rely on school meals have access to food outside of the classroom.
We know these first couple of steps are not enough. The health and economic impacts of this virus are rapidly evolving; we are working with communities and other organizations to determine the best ways to support our people in the coming weeks and months. We look forward to sharing our plans with you soon.
Sealaska stands with our shareholders and communities. We are all in this together.
