It has been 40 years since Tlingit, Haida and Tsimshian Elders convened in 1980 to discuss the importance of preserving our culture to benefit future generations. The resulting text of that meeting, “Because We Cherish You,” laid out the Elders’ vision for maintaining our way of life and passing it on to our grandchildren. The anniversary of that momentous gathering gave us renewed cause to reflect the direction they provided, and as a result, “Because We Cherish You” became the theme of much of Sealaska’s work this year.
As the year comes to a close, we invite you to view some of our favorite videos from 2020, which highlight the concept of cherishing future generations and our shared heritage.
