Job Title: SHI - Publication Specialist

Job Summary:

Under supervision of the Publications & Communications Director, responsible for assisting with the development, design, and production of SHI’s publications including books, manuals, curriculum resources, catalogs, reports, flyers, advertisements, and other print and online materials. Duties include writing, reviewing, editing, and branding media, educational, promotional, and print materials; working with program managers in the planning and production of media materials; and designing and producing media and promotional materials.
Duties/Responsibilities

• Coordinate with internal departments and staff, and external clients, to develop, design and produce camera-ready manuscripts, books, scholarly works, curriculum, brochures and other publications.
• Coordinate, plan, and produce publications for SHI programs.
• Edit, proofread, and rewrite texts for content and clarity, when needed.
• Assist with publication project tracking, schedule, and calendar.
• Assist with graphic design projects as needed.
• Write blog posts and other media materials.
• Ensure branding, style, and consistency in SHI publications, media, and print materials.
• Work with staff and contractors to keep publications on schedule and at a high quality.
• Develop and design PowerPoint and other presentations for executive staff.
• Prepare files for proofing and production.
• Work with printers to ensure quality control.
• Assist with materials for SHI’s Instagram and Facebook accounts as needed.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

• Proficiency in Adobe Suite (InDesign, Photoshop, etc.).
• Knowledge of Southeast Alaska Native culture, art, and history.

Supervisory Responsibility:

This position will have no direct reports.
Work Environment
This position’s duties are performed at the Walter Soboleff Building. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, and fax machines.
Physical Demands
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to verbally communicate. This position is very active and requires standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching, and climbing all day. The employee must frequently lift and/or move objects up to 20 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move objects up to 50 pounds.
About this Role
This is a full-time benefited position. SHI employees are expected to work during SHI’s regular business hours of 8:00am to 4:30pm Monday to Friday. Additionally, many employees may work up to 45 hours per week or additional time as needed to meet workload demands or special events such as Celebration.

Required
Education and Experience:


• Bachelor’s degree in graphic design, English, communications, or related field.
• Two years’ experience in publications development, design and production (or relevant/related work experience).

Salary Range: $57,000.00 - $70,000.00
