Sealaska Job Opportunities

Hiring and Workforce Development

As a large for-profit, private employer in Southeast Alaska, Sealaska is a vital contributor to the region's economy.

Sealaska recognizes the importance of supporting Alaska Native people and follows a shareholder employment policy. According to this policy, Sealaska will give preference to a shareholder over a non-shareholder candidate, but only in that instance where there are two equally qualified applicants. We support shareholder hiring in all of our offices but always look to hire the best candidates and encourage all to apply.

Sealaska has two policies regarding shareholder jobs and opportunities

1. Shareholder Preference

Sealaska's policy promotes direct employment opportunities for shareholders by providing preference to Sealaska shareholders, descendants and spouses. When a shareholder candidate meets the qualifications, stated in the position description for a position being recruited, the shareholder will be given preference over all other non-shareholder candidates with the same qualifications.

2. Shareholder Economic Opportunities

Sealaska's policy promotes utilization of shareholder-owned and shareholder-descendant-owned companies and professionals within the corporate headquarters and subsidiary companies.

It is Sealaska's policy to advocate for and provide preference for utilization of shareholder-owned and shareholder-descendant-owned companies and professionals, and other ANCSA corporations that meet the business standards of Sealaska and demonstrate a record of shareholder or shareholder-descendant employment.

Sealaska subsidiaries are required to institute an aggressive effort to ensure that preference is given to businesses that meet Sealaska's standards in accordance with the above priority.

Management is required to carry out these policies and report regularly to the Board of Directors.

Senior Accountant (Virtual Opportunity)

Location: Seattle, WA Posted: Tuesday, November 22, 2022

This an exciting role at Woocheen LLC – a wholly-owned subsidiary of Sealaska, an Alaska Native Corporation. Woocheen is dedicated to improving the health of the world’s oceans, to help heal and protect our environment. We believe that bringing skilled, talented people together can help solve the planet’s toughest problems – rising ocean temperatures, plastic pollution, and out-of-balance ecological systems. Our vision is a world where no species is endangered by human activities, energy is derived from clean, sustainable sources, lost wilderness is restored to sequester carbon and support biodiversity, fisheries are healthy and sustainable, everyone has ready access to clean drinking water, plastic waste is minimal, and our planet’s resources can continue forever.

The word “Woocheen” is derived from a Tlingit word that means “working together.”  We seek out people who love to work with others to solve problems – those who value creativity, curiosity, continuous learning, respect for others and the environment, speak honestly and directly and constantly strive to do the right thing for our planet, our businesses and each other.

Sealaska is owned by more than 24,000 Alaska native shareholders from the Tlingit, Haida and Tsimshian tribes, and is one of thirteen for-profit corporations established by the Alaska Native Claims Settlement Act in 1972. Profits support Sealaska’s disadvantaged shareholders through dividends, workforce development, scholarships, internships, and other benefit programs.

About this Role

Woocheen LLC is looking for a detail-oriented senior accountant to join its Accounting & Finance team.  The responsibilities include preforming account reconciliations, maintaining the general ledger, assisting with audit requests, and performing other accounting duties as assigned.

You have solid working knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (US GAAP), strong financial analysis skills, and highly organized.  You are highly collaborative and value integrity.  You are a self-starter, able to set goals and objectives with little direction in a fast-paced and changing environment. You communicate clearly and concisely to financial and non-financial colleagues, both orally and in writing. Questioning the status quo by offering thought-provoking and creative solutions is natural for you.

This can be a virtual role within the pacific or mountain time zones.

Financial Systems & Reporting Analyst

Location: Seattle, WA Posted: Tuesday, October 11, 2022

This an exciting new role at Woocheen, LLC – a wholly-owned subsidiary of Sealaska, an Alaska Native Corporation.

The word “Woocheen” is derived from a Tlingit word that means “working together.”  We seek out people who love to work with others to solve problems – those who value creativity, curiosity, continual learning, respect for others and the environment, speak honestly and directly and constantly strive to do the right thing for our planet, our businesses and each other.

The Financial Systems & Reporting Analyst is a new role that serves as the organization’s OneStream subject matter expert. You will be responsible for expanding upon our very recent, bare-bones implementation of the system at the parent company level – adding to the product’s functionality and broadening its use across the company and its various subsidiaries. You will partner with IT, Accounting and Finance leaders to transform disparate data into usable information. You will be leading the charge to develop and implement budgeting, forecasting, guided reporting, dashboards, and ad-hoc Excel-based analytical tools. You will develop and conduct training sessions across the company to ensure that we leverage OneStream throughout the organization, enabling a thorough understanding of business drivers, increased efficiency, and timely, informed decision-making.

The person we are looking for to take on this role will be entrepreneurial and intensely curious about many different industries, which helps you to design and implement meaningful KPIs and scalable process improvements within a complex organization. You are highly collaborative and enjoy teaching, coaching, and training others using data, technology, and automation. You value integrity and enjoy helping your business partners learn how to optimize their business with data through educating, coaching, and mentoring. You are a self-starter, able to set goals and objectives with little direction in a fast-paced and changing environment. You communicate clearly and concisely to financial and non-financial colleagues, both orally and in writing. Questioning the status quo by offering thought-provoking and creative solutions is natural for you.

This role will be what you make it – systems and processes need to be designed and implemented – together with Woocheen’s IT and Accounting & Finance team, we can work together to ready the organization for future growth!
