Job Title: SHI - CTE Specialist
Job Summary:
The primary objective of the CTE specialist is to provide coordination support for Pathways and Partnerships to Support Culturally Relevant Career and Technical Education for Southeast Alaska Students, administered through the Sealaska Heritage Institute (SHI) Education Department. This position will coordinate all Southeast Alaska school districts' efforts for students to participate in the program's internship and mentorship program.
Independent judgment is required to support the project manager and program staff in meeting deadlines, processing payments, and managing program documents.
Duties/Responsibilities
• Oversee programming with unions and apprenticeship partners, coordinate the CTE work in conjunction with the college and career specialist to support student post-secondary planning and assist in the planning of CTE intensive. Assist in the development of CTE pathways.
• Establish a tiered model of services for students and districts .
• Establish and publish a calendar of sequential course offerings for students that lead to CTE complete status and occupational endorsements.
• Develop and facilitate a community of practice for educators focused on culturally sustaining CTE pedagogy.
• Support partners and the project manager to host the yearly Juneau Traditional Games/Native Youth Olympics (NYO) event.
• Create and adopt sustainable mentorship and internship opportunities for students.
• Other duties as assigned.
Required Skills:
• Demonstrated high level of verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
• Exhibited ability to manage multiple projects and activities with attention to detail.
• Strong organizational and planning skills to support the project manager and program staff to meet the deliverables on time.
• Technical capacity and expertise in using charts, tables, graphs, spreadsheets, and databases.
• Strong knowledge of Southeast Alaska Native cultures.
Supervisory Responsibility:
This position will have no direct reports.
Work Environment
This position’s duties are performed at SHI offices. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, and fax machines.
Physical Demands
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to verbally communicate. This position is very active and requires standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching, and climbing. The employee must frequently lift and/or move objects up to 20 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move objects up to 50 pounds.
About this Role
This is a full-time benefited position. SHI employees are expected to work during SHI’s regular business hours of 8:00am to 4:30pm Monday to Friday. Additionally, employees may work up to or over 45 hours per week or additional time as needed to meet workload demands or special events such as Celebration. Part-time staff are expected to work 20 hours per week.
Travel
Up to 15% travel to oversee CTE Intensives not located in Juneau
Required
Education and Experience:
• Bachelor’s degree in Education or another field.
• Four years of experience in an educational setting.
• Experience with postsecondary education

Salary Range: $57,000.00 - $70,000.00
