Job Title: Graphic Design Intern

Job Summary:

Barnacle Foods is seeking a Graphic Design Intern who brings creativity, attention to detail, and a love for clean, bold design rooted in storytelling. Based in Juneau, Barnacle Foods celebrates locally grown and harvested ingredients - like kelp - crafted into products that capture the taste and spirit of coastal Alaska.
As a Graphic Design Intern, you’ll help bring the Barnacle brand to life through thoughtful, visually engaging design. You’ll work on digital assets, including email newsletters, product catalogs, general marketing materials, and social media graphics. This internship takes place at the Barnacle office in Juneau, AK, with occasional opportunities to join local harvest trips and field photography sessions.
Remote option may be available for the right candidate. All team members at Barnacle Foods will occasionally assist on the production floor when extra support is needed.

Duties/Responsibilities:

• Design digital and print materials that align with Barnacle’s visual identity (ads, social posts, sell sheets, packaging mockups).
• Assist with layout design, photo editing, and preparing files for print and digital use.
• Collaborate with the marketing team on creative campaigns and product launches.
• Maintain organized digital assets and templates.
• Support website and email design projects as needed.
• Help ensure brand consistency across all platforms.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Skills/Abilities:

• Proficient in Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop; familiarity with InDesign or Lightroom is a plus.
• Strong eye for layout, typography, and color.
• Ability to balance creativity with brand guidelines.
• Organized, detail-oriented, and able to manage multiple design tasks.
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
• Ability to meet deadlines and adapt to feedback.

Education and Experience:

• Must be 18 years old at time of hire
• Currently enrolled in a graphic design, visual communications, or related post-secondary program, or a recent graduate (1–2 years).
• Legally authorized to work in the United States

Preferred Skills:

• At least a 2.5 GPA
• Strong critical thinking and research skills
• Self-starter with ability to adapt to a fast-paced work environment
